Meet Joyce

I believe the above quote with all my heart and even take it a further step. I also believe that wherever you are in the stages of life, you owe it to yourself, your family and your friends that you should dream new dreams and work to accomplish new goals.

 I am Joyce Shields and along with my husband Stanley, make up the Shields' Images team. Stanley has been retired from being a mechanic for a couple of years. I am retired from teaching elementary school and eagerly leaping into my 'next dream'.

When I was a little girl, I would tell anyone who asked, that I wanted to be a mommy when I grew up. Of course, once a mom, always a mom, so that dream is on-going. For years, I have told my students I want to be a photographer 'when I grow up'. They think I am already 'grown-up' even though I am pretty silly sometimes. My point to them is that we never stop learning, never stop striving for our dreams, and that keeps us feeling young.

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie. I wish I still had it for old times sake. Then, over the years, I have had everything from 'disposable' film cameras to various point and shoots and that is what Stanley and I took on a trip to Florida. Our attempt at photographing the dolphins at Marineland was a total bust with the camera we had at the time. So, Stanley acquired a Nikon D70. We were in heaven. We could stop the wheels of a speeding car and catch those dolphins in mid-air with ease. Of course, Stanley loves to tell how he got the D70 and then didn't see it for 2 years. I eventually got the D80 so we became two photographers on the prowl. At school, I was called the papparazzi as I took pictures for the yearbook for years. That is when I fell in love with capturing those looks of wonder and  great smiles of children playing and learning.
